Prescription Drug Take Back Day

Saturday, April 29

Sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration, National Prescription Drug Take Back Day highlights safe and convenient methods for the public to dispose of old or unused prescription drugs. The Burnsville Police Department would like to remind residents to use the City's prescription drug dropbox on or before the weekend of April 29 as the box will be temporarily moving May 1.

The dropbox is provided in partnership by the Burnsville Police Department, Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, Dakota County Attorney’s Office and the Dakota County Environmental Management Office. The box will not be staffed on April 29, but the Police Department lobby is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

How to Drop Off Your Medicine:
  • Do not leave medicines outside the box.
  • If the box is full, you will need to take your prescriptions with you.
  • Drop-off is safe and anonymous. No ID is required and no questions will be asked.
  • Use a marker to cross out your name on the medicine containers.
  • Keep creams, gels, liquids and powders in their original container.
  • Pills in bottles should be emptied into a clear plastic bag. Write the name of the medicine on the bag and take the empty pill bottle home for disposal.
  • Pills still in blister packs and medicine that is no longer in its original container should be placed in a clear plastic bag. Write the name of the medicine on the bag.

PLEASE NOTE: Burnsville Police Prescription Drug Dropbox Temporarily Moving Beginning May 1
With construction scheduled at the Burnsville Police Department later this year, the “Prescription Drug Dropbox” will be removed on May 1. The closest location for residents to anonymously dispose of their old or unused prescription drugs will be:

Eagan Police Department
3830 Pilot Knob Road
Eagan, Minn.

The dropbox will likely return once construction is complete. We apologize for the inconvenience.
