Employee Benefits
In addition to providing competitive pay and a great work environment, the City of Burnsville also provides a comprehensive benefit package.  Please see highlights of available benefits.


MEDICAL:  (Regular Full-time & Regular Part-time Employees)

The City provides health care benefits for eligible employees.  Employees can chose between single, single plus one or family coverage.  Three different plan designs are offered. 

The City also contributes a certain designated amount per month that can be used towards medical coverage as well as other cafeteria benefits.  Depending on which plan design is selected, the City also contributes a designated amount into a VEBA account.  City contributions are pro-rated for regular part-time employees.


DENTAL:
  (Regular Full-time & Regular Part-time Employees)

The City provides dental care benefits for eligible employees.  Employees can chose between single, single plus one or family coverage.


LIFE INSURANCE:
  (Regular Full-time & Regular Part-time Employees)
Basic life insurance is provided for all eligible employees with the option to purchase additional supplemental life insurance for self, spouse, or dependent children.


LONG TERM DISABILITY INSURANCE:
 (Regular Full-time Employees)
The City provides Long Term Disability Insurance for eligible employees.


VACATION:
  (Regular Full-time & Regular Part-time Employees)

Vacation accrual based on years of service. Pro-rated accrual for part-time employees.  Optional opportunity to purchase additional leave days.


HOLIDAYS:
  (Regular Full-time & Regular Part-time Employees)

12 paid holidays annually.  Pro-rated for part-time employees.


SICK LEAVE:
  (Regular Full-time & Regular Part-time Employees)

Employees earn paid sick leave each month. Number of accrual days vary based on type of employment.


FLEXIBLE BENEFITS:
  (Regular Full-time & Regular Part-time Employees)
Under Section 125 of the Internal Revenue Code, employees who enroll in a flexible benefit plan are allowed to set aside pre-tax dollars to help pay for out-of-pocket expenses for both medical and dental as well as dependent daycare.  This benefit increases your spendable income and helps to lower your taxes.


DEFERRED COMPENSATION:
  (Regular Full-time & Regular Part-time Employees) Eligible employees are able to designate and set aside a portion of income on a tax-deferred basis.  The City offers two plans, ICMA and Minnesota State.  Participation is voluntary.


PERA:  (Regular Full-time & Regular Part-time Employees) Eligible employees automatically become members of the Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA) when they begin public service.  Contribution percentages (city and employee) vary based on type of employment. 

EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM: All employees are eligible for the Employee Assistance Program.

FITNESS ROOM/EQUIPMENT:  The City of Burnsville supports the physical health of employees by providing a free fitness room and equipment at City Hall and the Maintenance Facility.


CREDIT UNION:
  All employees are eligible to join the Affinity Plus or US Federal Credit Union.
